The Tale of the "Cucumber Fest"

Thanks to Sue Fleshman '87 for responding to our recent call for AXE memories.

She writes One of my best memories was the "Cucumber Fest."  I think it was in the fall of 1986.  The house had ordered too many cucumbers after Homecoming, and not wanting to waste them, the brothers came up with this ridiculous festival of games featuring the cucumber.  The house was divided into 2 teams with brothers and little sisters.  Each team selected who would compete in each of the events--a "canoe race," a cucumber fashion show, a relay race where the cucumber was pushed by one's nose (no hands or feet were allowed!).  It was hilarious seeing friends and brothers/sisters pushing the cukes around the house on hands and knees, nose first.  It really generated great camaraderie amongst all members of the house and a nice way to celebrate after homecoming weekend.  I still have such vivid memories and laugh even now just thinking about that crazy day. Hope others remember the fun, too!"
